Come tutti gli anni, a gennaio, eccoci mobilitati per l’IWC, conteggio International Waterfowl. The wet areas of interest are covered by legions of detectors, armed with a notebook and optics. Some people in the Po Delta has hundreds and thousands of geese, ducks and companionship singer. And there are those who have to make do on our part, of little stuff. But so be it.
The key, however, in these cases is that few seconds of glory on the list from being guaranteed. Since 2010 our tank was also included in the list of wetlands of Lombardy, with Violetta Longoni, coordinator for Lombardy. Complete with identification number: MI0214. The storage system unfortunately does not consider the newly Province of Monza Brianza, more than anything else, I believe, for reasons of convenience.
We come to the data. On January 13, 2011 are in place, between 11:40 and 12. Fast bet. The ice melted, some day, but not enough to attract guests. Two crested grebes move on the surface of the flywheel. One is produced in a short flight: mica usual to see these animals in the air. I look carefully everywhere: nothing else, a desert bird, no water over the two loons. On January 15, 2011 Gaén is in place. His list reads as follows: 4 2 mallards and cormorants, grebes in addition to the above. Send this data, then? No sir, fairness requires consideration to the good list della giornata ufficiale, ovvero i due miseri svassi.
Andrà meglio il prossimo anno? Ai posteri….

Germani reali (Mallards) foto Gaetano Nava, 15 gennaio 2011 Launched in 1967, the International Waterbird Census covers most of the wetlands all over the world. Regional programs are undertaken along rivers, lakes, ponds and coasts. In January, thousands of birders spread to count waterbirds, such as ducks, seagulls and so on. The aims of the project can be easily outlined: to estimate population sizes and changes in numbers and distribution of waterbirds, and to benefit the conservation of waterbirds and wetlands. In every country, a list covers the most important wet areas. Since 2010, Vasca Volano was added to our regional list; a way to put our local patch on the map.
On January 13th 2011 I got there to count coots and such. I have been doing that for years, in search of winter visitors. The area turned out to be a desert. The ice melted a couple of days back, but no birds moved here. Only two Great Crested Grebes swam and fished. I kept checking the area for a quarter, but no other bird showed up. On January 2011 15th Gaén Gave a mail from something more: 2 4 Mallards and cormorants, in Addition to the grebes. What should i do? Should I get Gaén's list for IWC? The official one is mine, anyway, I know That Violetta Longoni, IWC coordinator for Lombardy, Was sent my data only. Will it be better next year?
